The daily driver

The MGB when well-maintained is perfectly capable of being a daily driver. It was extremely well designed, engineered and built to be driven daily and over 60 years later is still very capable of being a reliable form of transport. Just how reliable your old car is totally dependent on you and how much TLC you want to put into it. Remember, once you've got your car to a certain stage of reliability it will be much easier to keep it that way. One of the worst things you can do to an old car is not use it. Old cars, like many old things deteriorate if left to themselves for long periods. Thinking your low milage old anything is better off being left low milage is an exercise in futility. The more you drive it and maintain it the more reliable it will be. Once you have your car running reliably you will be more confident to drive it in all conditions over long distances because you know it's running well and if anything happens you will be able to at least get yourself home to fix it properly.

The comment that I always find annoyingly amusing is that a stock MGB can't keep up with modern traffic. Unless you live in Monaco and only drive on the weekend of the GP then your stock MGB is more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic. The exception to this rule is if you don't maintain and tune your MG very well or you own one of the more insipid post '75 USA models. I live in Brisbane and the speed limits in Australian capital cities is 50KPH. That's 31MPH. A stock MGB will do that in 1st gear and get there in around 3 seconds. A standard MGB will cruise at 110KPH (68MPH) in top OD at around 3800RPM which this engine will sit on all day, every day forever. Mine is much lower when I put the 15" wheels with high profile tyres on for long weekends away. Before I fitted my new stage 2 engine for a bit of fun, my stock 18GG engine was more than enough to drive around town and on longer trips. I don't know where you're driving your MGB to not keep up with modern traffic, but you should either tune your car or use your right foot a little more.
